F. Cinzano & C. Azione 100 da 500 L., Torino, 26 Giugno 1925. Nr. 00234/05801-900. Share of this well known Vermouth company. Its history dates back to 1757 when two brothers, Giovanni Giacomo and Carlo Stefano Cinzano, who ran a herbal shop in Torino, created a new "vermouth rosso" using "aromatic plants from the Italian Alps in a secret recipe combining 35 ingredients". The new drink became very popular within the bourgeoisie of Turin. Sales increased rapidly. Exports began in the 1890s, to Argentina, Brazil, the USA and other countries. In Paris in 1912, Cinzano was the first product to be advertised with a neon sign. Cinzano remained a family-run business until 1985. Beginning that year, the Marone family began to sell shares in the business. It culminated in 1992 with an agreement to sell Cinzano International SA entirely to a subsidiary of Grand Metropolitan. Since 1999 it is owned by Gruppo Campari. EF.
