1865, 8 r. red (Mexico, 133-1865, 800 examples invoiced), well margined pair tied by cds on envelope (one side flap missing) from Mexico City to New York, conveyed by Mexico-American steamship to New York, charged ´´60´´ cents on arrival. Endorsed ´´Extraordinario´´, denoting the forwarding service requiring urgent delivery which came into operation in an arrangement with the Mexican Post, being carried by Rafael Veraza, the mail being charged the double rate for this service; thus, this franking paid the triple weight domestic rate for a distance above 17 Leagues. Illustrated on page 66 (ill. 22) of ´´Mexican Maritime Mail´´ handbook by Schimmer and Heath. A rare franking with the added significance of the ´´Extraordinario´´ service usage.
