Auction: SW1002 - Latin America, including the Tito Collection - Part I
Lot: 538
1864, 10c. violet, lower left diagonal half, in mixed franking with 1866 20c. blue, on cover front to Bogotá, used to pay the 25 centavos postage due on receipt, as denoted by blue ´´Debe.´´ straight-line and ´´25´´ handstamps with ´´Cóbrese a los destinatarios´´ (to be collected from the addressees) endorsement, with ´´Cali/Franca´´ alongside. The stamps were tied by very rare ´´De Oficio/Bogota´´ oval. The only example known of this franking on cover, further enhanced by the, with all probability, unique usage of this handstamp on classic stamps. Of even more significance if the fact that this is the only item recorded in this period bearing stamps of these issues used as postage due on receipt. Scott 38, 47. Ex Frohlich.
