Lot: 502
1864, 15 c. blue, an exceptional marginal copy from the right of the sheet, large to enormous margins, being clear in one small place at left displaying a detailed impression, used together with 5 c. red rose, graced by very clear impression with ample to large margins except for being just touched at right, both stamps used to pay a quadruple rate between 12 and 16 ´´adarmes´´ on April 28, 1864 cover from Buenos Aires via steamship to Rosario, delicately tied by very fine strike of blue ´´OM´´ maritime cancellation. Illustrated in the Kneitschel catalogue as the introduction illustration of the ´´Rivadavias´´ issues. An extraordinary gem of a cover bearing the only existing example of a combination franking of this important first imperforate printing in this fascinating and one of the most specialized classic issues in world philately, further enhanced by bearing an extremely rare 15c. marginal copy (only about 30 used examples are recorded off cover). The immense rarity of this cover is also supported by the fact that only one other cover is recorded franked by a 15c. value, which represents a single franking only and does not have four complete margins, in contrast to this copy which image an extremely rare marginal. Of wonderful beauty, this piece is undoubtedly considered the most important cover in Argentine philately, as well as a fabulous classic postal history rarity of world philately. Cert. Del Mazo and Solari. Kn 16, 18. Ex Jewell, Soto Acebal, Schatzkès, Hubbard, Amundsen, Neuberger, Sánchez, Alemany, Galvalisi and ´´Patagonia´´ collection. Starting Price US$ 80,000
