1921-22, a wonderful group of proofs and essays displaying the "Bull"s Eyes" designs in four denominations of 10, 20, 25 and 50 réis, which was projected, but rejected, to commemorate the centenary of the proclamation of independence of Brazil. This unique group consists of four coloured die proofs on cream wove thick paper including 10r. (2) in bright rose-carmine and reddish brown colours, 25r. and 50r. in ochre, four of which being signed by the artist Vargas; eight essays in black on India paper comprising 10r., 20r. and 50r. in pairs and single 20r. and 25r.; as well as three die proofs on cream wove paper with: 10r. registering a manuscript date as 29-XI-1921, composite die proof displaying the 25r. and 50r. denominations with annotated "1 de XII-1921 Otto e Vargas", and 20r. The very few proofs and essays extant are the only evidence, in private hands, of the existence of this project "the steel plates were deposited at the Post and Telegraphs Museum of Brasilia-.
