1807, Dec 13. Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Providence (USA), conveyed by the British "Huron" en route to Reunion via Rio de Janeiro and Cape of Good Hope, disembarked at Cape Town and transferred to an American packet heading for USA. British maritime rate of 4s and "Ship Letter/Cape of Good Hope" crowned double oval, both applied at Cape, charged with "70" cents, four times the basic rate plus 2c ship fee, to be paid by the addressee. Red New York entry and "Ship" postmark. A very early and consequently rare usage of the Cape postmark on cover following an extraordinary route. Of great fascination. Starting Price US$ 400
