Auction: CSS92A - World and Hong Kong Banknotes and Coins
Lot: 339
Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China, Hong Kong, remainder $25, partial date 189-, no serial numbers, green and pink, no signatures, perforated cancelled,
(Pick 37r), In the complex and long history of Hong Kong banknotes, the $25 remains one of the most elusive after the $200 and $300 only issued by Agra and United Service Bank. Much loved by collectors but unpopular with the public hence the last $25 was removed from circulation in 1912. Only one specimen $25 is known with the signature of T.H. Whitehead. Remainder notes even scarcer with this possibly being the only one in existence. A rare opportunity to obtain an early $25. PMG 40 Extremely Fine (selvage included, cancelled, toning, discoloration)
