1947 (11 Oct.) a very large manila envelope registered to Washington from the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, Taipei bearing, on the reverse, an impressive $130,700 franking tied by Shanghai dotted c.d.s. and Washington arrival (16.10); the address side with red on white registration label with "Taipei S.O." struck in light blue. The postmaster's postage calculation can be seen above the adhesives. There is some peripheral wrinkling as is to be expected from a letter of this size. Pays surface $1100 plus twelve times $700, fifty two times air $2300 plus registration $1600. A stunning cover from this short-lived postage rate, particularly important being sent from Taipei and carried to Shanghai. Rate 3.1.8. Photo
