During that time, 1 tael was made up of 24 zhu, so Tang Dynasty's 10 cash being equivalent to 1 tael is far more convenient when it comes to conversion compared to the Wuzhu (5 zhu) coin system used since the Han Dynasty, thus paving the way of the Chinese metric system to the modern decimal system.
