Auction: CSS72 - A Collection of South East Asian Coins and Banknotes Part II
Lot: 204

Penang, Tin Cent of Penang officials Anderson and Clubley, 1809, weighs 26.39g, Extremely Fine
Obverse: "A+C 1809" within plain circle, and countermarked with Chinese character;
Reverse: blank.
The "almost extremely fine" Pridmore example brought GBP2500 ($4300), and was from completely different dies than the present example.
In the Pridmore variety the ampersand is inverted, and the figure 1 in the date is written as a crescent.
On the present example the ampersand is correctly engraved, and the figure 1 is an arabic 1.
This represents a discovery of major importance, and it is presumed that the present example is unique.
Of the highest desirability.
