Penang, Tin Cent of Governor Leigh ca. 1800-1804, weighs 38.57g, Obverse: "GL" in script within plain circle and countermarked with Chinese character;
Reverse: blank.
Not known to Pridmore at the time his book was written, but an example was discovered in the mid-1970s and published by Pridmore in the Spink Numismatic circular of February 1977.
That piece was obtained by Pridmore, and offered as lot 86 in the sale of his collection in October 1982 where it brought GBP2500 (US$4300) on a maximum bid of GBP6000.
The example in the Pridmore collection was approximately equal in condition to this piece.
Of the highest rarity and desirability, in the Pridmore sale this piece was listed as being "the only recorded specimen".
