2c. on 2ca. light green variety surcharge inverted cancelled by part Shanghai Dollar dater in blue dated 1897 (20 Sept.), the earliest recorded on this error; the stamp is a little aged and a few clipped perforations at foot. A good example of this stamp. S.G. 29d; Chan 39d. Photo

Only one sheet was issued, of these 40 stamps only one is known unused and there are 22 used stamps recorded. All are with the Shanghai Dollar daters, many in blue, and recordable dates are between 20th September and 8th November 1897. It is believed that these stamps were used on commercial mail and 6 or 7 were torn from their envelopes by the postmaster in Hankow, accounting for some of the stamps being damaged
