An exceptionally rare and important $100 note dating to the initial preparations for the first Chartered Bank issue for Hong Kong, which ultimately appeared late in 1862.
When the first $100 notes appeared in circulation is not known but likely early to mid-1863.
A superb proof pair of the obverse and reverse, by Batho, Sprague and Co., London.
(Pick 25p1, 25p2), PMG 63 and 62 (Previously Mounted, Annotations). This is the earliest-dated evidence of any design for the newly established Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China, today's Standard Chartered Bank.
At present it is the only recorded example of this note in private hands, with no issued, cancelled, or specimen notes being known.
The specimen example illustrated by Boon as his KNB5 is indicated to be part of the Hong Kong Museum of History collection.
