The Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, $10, date indistinguishable, type of 1913-1918, Shanghai, serial number GT127281, green reverse, a geniune note that has been heavily damaged by chemicals, most importantly the lot came with three letters stating the chain of events:

1. dated 10th September 1926, written by the Accountant of the Shanghai branch of the Chartered Bank to the Secretary of the London branch stating that the note has been paid and to ask if the printers (W.W. Sprague and Co.) can be approached to determine the notes authenticity

2. dated 22nd October (192)6, written by the Manager of the London branch to W.W. Sprague and Co. to ask if they can determine the authenticty of the note.

3. dated 4th February 1927, written by the Director of W.W. Sprague and Co. to the Manager of the Chartered Bank, London branch, to state that the note is genuine and that chemicals were use 'to obtain a reproduction which has destroyed most of the printing'.

The serial number of the note, GT127281, was mentioned in the first letters.
