1846 (29 July) addressed to a lieutenant on H.M.S. 'Vestal' in Hong Kong "Via Southampton". Double weight and bearing G.B. 1841 2d. blue, plate 3 OC/QD block of six with small to large margins all round (some minor edge wear) cancelled by "625" numeral of Portsmouth and bearing, on the reverse, undated circle of Portsea, Portsmouth (29.7), London (30.7) and Hong Kong type 9 c.d.s. (18.9).


A magnificent and highly desirable cover this is one of the most striking early covers from England. A gem of exhibition calibre. Photo

The block of six shows the raised cliché of OD and the corosion blemishes on QC before it was retouched. Pays double the military officer's' rate of 6d.
