Auction: CSS32 - The Numismatic Collectors' Series incl. The Nicholas Rhodes Collection of Tibetan Coins, Tibetan and Nepalese Banknotes
Lot: 210
Government of Nepal, lot of 2x 100 Mohru, 1951 (First Series), dark green and multicolour, King Tribhuvana with plumed crown at top right, each signed by Janak Raj and Bharana Raja,
The 100 mohur note signed by Janak Raj is one of the rarest among Nepal´s banknotes. When these notes were issued their face value represented about the monthly salary of a school teacher. The cataloguer has not seen such notes in uncirculated condition. This is in contrast to the 100 mohur notes signed by Bharat Raj and Narendra Raj, some of which do exist in uncirculated condition. Rumours suggest that some bundles of the latter notes were discovered in the Royal Palace after Nepal had become a rupublic.
