Auction: CSS32 - The Numismatic Collectors' Series incl. The Nicholas Rhodes Collection of Tibetan Coins, Tibetan and Nepalese Banknotes
Lot: 54
Tibetan Government, Anonymous (A-group, c. 1840-50), Gaden Tangka, 4.80g. Dod-pal mint, undated, lotus with three stalks and transposed (mirrored) Buddhist emblems, i.e. northeast symbol on normal issues is the northwest symbol, east symbol changes places with west symbol and southeast symbol changes places with southwest symbol (cf. YZM 273), a little double struck, fine, very rare
YZM illustrates a similar piece as # 273 and records it as a fake coin. The cataloguer believes that the coin may be genuine in view of the fact that there exists a genuine Kong-Par Tangka with similarly transposed emblems (see YZM # 31; Spink China, 13 Aug. 2013, lot 153). Whether it is genuine or a contemporaneous forgery, the coin is very rare.
