Thematic collections
A unique collection based on Poulo Condore prison with incoming, outcoming mail and picture postcards illustrating the buildings and activities at Poulo Condore. An early 1903 cover annotated "Troupe de l'Indochine - Poste de Poulo Condore" indicates the presence of military forces which initaially controlled the prison. As the prison expanded, its administration shifted to the French colonial penitentiary system. The collection includes some interesting 1950-3 censored mail including the use of dissolving fluids applied to the stamps to reveal potentially hidden messages under the stamps. The prison was operational until 1993. Total 35 items.
