Rated 1/- on arrival. Note the tombstone handstruck marking "Inward Bearing Ans/ Outward Do". Giles believed that this tombstone mark was struck at Bombay while Scamp thought that it is a Hong Kong Post Office marking. Research articles accompanied this letter. ex. Burghard and Giles
Dr. Andrew Cheung recorded 87 examples of the Royal Arms on incoming and outgoing covers between 1842 - 1843 and this is illustrated as figure 31 (HKPS Journal 5). Among the known letters, most of them are outgoing. Incoming or transit examples are rare! Giles recorded only two examples of the tombstone mark while Cheung added 15 more, mainly from the Bruce correspondence.
