1897 (?) (8 Jan.) Playfair cover front to France bearing $5 purple and black Consular Service stamp, numbered "6790" tied by an oily strike of straight-line Ningpo c.d.s. type B, code "C". The Consular Service stamp bears a part strike of the double-ring British Consulate Arms cancellation; there are no postage due markings, suggesting that this stamp was accepted throughout its route. Two heavy vertical creases (one with repaired paper split). A highly unusual cover which is thought to be a unique usage. Photo
