1897 (1 Dec.) envelope to New York bearing Tientsin bilingual "paid" handstamp partly covered by Japan 10s. Koban tied by Shanghai c.d.s. with a fine strike of the Tientsin Dollar dater in left corner; a fine array of backstamps with Shanghai Dollar dater, Yokohama (14.12) and three New York (6.1). Occasionally the larger post offices ran out of stamps and these Paid marks were used in lieu of postage. Photo
