1936 two pairs of Hong Kong Tramways discounted 3 cents tickets printed in different ways (offset no. 03951-2 and machine-printed no. 03081-2). The machine-printed tickets have the General Manager's signature printed on the back.
The three-cent discount was due to the government approving the China Motor Bus Company to operate on Hong Kong Island on April 1, 1935. This created competition for tram operators, and the tram company decided to reduce fares in June 1936 to win back passengers. First-class fares were reduced from 10 cents to 6 cents, and second-class fares were reduced from 5 cents to 3 cents.
