China, Qing Dynasty, Yunnan Province, [Zhong Qian XF40] saddle shaped silver 5 tael sycee, 1884-1911, issued by Fan Rong Feng Hao, 59.9x38.1x16.6mm, weighs 194.7g, stamp indicating the quality of the silver has been inspected by the officials Tong Fu Cheng, She Qing Cheng and Zhou Bao Quan (with 'tail fin' stamp). The booming trade of opium within Yunnan brought an influx of silver, but discrepancy in purity of silver from different regions meant that a unified standard is needed for buyers and sellers alike, hence the introduction of the quality control system.
