1838 (Sept.) envelope with enclosure to Canton "via Calcutta" with an indistinct boxed handstamp (Bombay?), the reverse with manuscript "The Post Master General of Calcutta is requested to forward this letter to Canton with any of the first sailing clippers" and boxed Calcutta Ship Letter datestamp (1.10). The paper is quite brittle and there are several unsightly adhesive tape reinforcements. Not illustrated
