1884 (25 Feb.) envelope registered to Nova Scotia "Via San Francisco" bearing 2c. rose-lake with 1880 48c. brown tied by fine strikes of the type Dii code "A" c.d.s. with a further strike alongside plus two strikes (one smudged) of the large "R" in circle; the reverse with Hong Kong (28.2), San Francisco (3.4) and Halifax (12.4) arrival datestamps; light vertical fold and some minor soiling. A highly important cover, believed to be one of only two bearing the 48c. brown and the earliest recorded date for the Amoy "R" handstamp (Norton).
