1898 (14 Aug.) stampless envelope to Paris bearing a good strike of the large, double-circle "philippine station/san francisco. cal." duplex (type C), with Hong Kong transit (25.8) and "T" in circle plus circular Ligne N Paq. Fr. c.d.s. (27.8), the reverse with part Paris arrival c.d.s. Manuscript note in the upper corner mentions the capitualtion of Manila. The envelope was roughly opened at top and has been reinforced. An unusual and delightful cover and is the first day of use of the Philippine Station postmark

Manila was occupied by the United States forces in the short Spanish American War on 13th August 1898.
