1860 (9 Oct.) envelope and letter to Lieut. Geoffrey Mairis "Expeditionary Force North of China" and "Via Marseilles" bearing 1855-57 6d. with 2d. blue tied by Bristol duplex and bearing a fine strike of large handstruck "1d" in red alongside, the reverse with London and Hong Kong (25.11) c.d.s.

The letter includes the receipt of a telegram from Pekin, " ... the telegram also mentions that trade is suspended, the people there very discontented & that they had sent only 6000 against us & 10,000 against the Rebels Which are cutting up the Empire."
