British Packet via Marseilles: 1869 (20 July) envelope to Boston stamped "via marseilles" bearing 6c. lilac with 12c. strip of three cancelled by "B62" in black, with "1/8" and "1" rate marks in red ink, London paid (6.9), "2/cents" accountancy handstamp and Boston arrival (18.9), the despatch c.d.s. is on the reverse. There is a pencil date on the reverse "July 10 1869" and similar covers from this correspondence to Boston suggests that this letter originated in Manila

The 42c. rate was an increase from 36c. due to the Franco-Prussian War, from 2 December 1870 to 16 January 1871, though this is rather early for this rate.
