1869 (8 July) Wingate envelope to Swatow "Per french mail S.S. Phase" bearing France Laureated Head 40c. strip of three cancelled by gross chiffres "5104" of Shanghai with Shanghai Bau Francais c.d.s., boxed "P.P." in red, "4" rate mark and a fine strike of the framed "paid only/to hongkong", the reverse with the seal of the Office of Maritime Customs, Hong Kong (13.7) and a light strike of straight-line Swatow c.d.s. type B. A rare and important cover, it is thought that only three have been recorded, this is the only example that has not been cancelled by pen strokes
