Mercantile Bank of India, Hong Kong, $50, 1.12.1937, serial number 80842, one handsigned signature, printed Benson signature,
(Pick 240b), PCGS 15 Fine, small splits. By far the scarcest of the 3 dates for the Mercantile $50 with only 1500 notes issued in which only a handful survived to date. One other example on PMG Census. Amazingly scarce example in any grade with lovely original colours. Donovan Benson became bank manager in 1937, same year as when the note issued. To note that Benson was absent during WWII, and hence Harry Hawkins' signature is on the subsequant 1941 issue. Extremely rare and seldom seen. A extremely important piece that was used front and centre in PCGS advertisment. Majestic trophy piece, a "once in a life time" opportunity for collectors to take their collection to the next level. Just stunning!
