China, Western Han Dynasty / Xin Dynasty, [Zhong Qian 82] bronze knife money, 'Yi Dao Ping Wu Qian', A.D. 7, minted during Huang Meng's first currency reform, 73.4x5.0mm, weighs 35.2g. 'Yi Dao Ping Wu Qian' means one knife is the equivalent of 5000 Wuzhu coins, representing a huge amount of purchasing power at that time and was primarily circulated within the social elite, thus rare. The mintage of this coin certainly played a role in increasing money supply and lead to inflation, which was among the factors that lead to the quick demise of the Xin Dynasty. Authentic and original examples are few and far between, especially with the original inlaid gold. Not to be missed by any collector of ancient Chinese coins!


西漢晚年/新朝一刀平五千，73.4x5.0毫米，重35.2克。於公元7年，即西漢晚年王莽當政之第一次幣制改革時所鑄。「一刀平五千」代表可兌換五銖錢五千枚，面值極大，主要流傳於貴族及豪強，因此鑄量不多。此舉有濫發貨幣之嫌，是新朝迅速敗亡的原因之一。本品中乾評82，錢體古拙穩重，「一刀」二字的錯金乃原裝當代工藝，尤其珍稀
