China, ZhongShan, Tai Yau Shing Rice milling company, a certificate for one share of 100 yuan, Year 16 (1927), serial number 338, dimension: 29 x 39 cm,
very fine. Tai Yau Shing was the earliest rice milling company in ZhongShan, established in 1912 by a group of Chinese businessman who bought the machineries in HK. As rice is a stable food, rice milling is seen as very profitable. Therefore after the establishment of Tai Yau Shing, many more rice milling companies opened in the hopes of getting their share of the market. But due to prevalent typhoon and flooding in subsequent years, many quickly closed down which then caused deflation of rice prices. An important piece in early China financial history. Very rare
