4c. bluish slate, perf.12½, part original gum with old hinge remnant; a good example of this elusive stamp. S.G. 9f, £12,000.

It is not known why the perf.12½ stamps were produced. It is improbable that a different perforating machine was employed if the main one temporarily broke down. It is possible that this was a trial for a perforating machine and the stamps issued. It is estimated that about 100 sheets were issued
