Lot: 1630

Northern Rhodesia 1963 (10 Dec.) Arms Issue 20/- lower right corner example with value omitted, fine. With a normal for comparison. Pierron NR176MCa, £1,100; S.G. 88a, £1,100. Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: Two black ink plates were used for the printing of the stamps; the leftmost plate number relating to the value. The error was first reported (in the 10 January 1964 edition of Stamp Collecting) by Jean Peyrieux of Lyons who received a block of four among his new issues from UK dealer G G Woolatt. The block came from a sheet of 60 supplied to G G Woolatt by the Crown Agents as ordinary stock. The remainder of the sheet was gradually split into singles and sold. A second sheet surfaced at a Christie´s auction in March 1992 and was split into 16 lots, including a plate block of 12 (normally 1A–1A–1A–1A–1A) missing 1A referencing black (the value). Examples from the second sheet have a lighter background shade than those from the first. A third sheet surfaced in early 2009 quantity: 180 mint
