New Zealand 1979 (24 Sept.)-80 4c. on 8c. block of twelve (6x2) with margin at foot showing imprint, plate and part sheet numbers, the centre block of four with black omitted, fine. With normal for comparison. Pierron NZ2402MCa, £6,000; C.P. PA30a(W); S.G. 1201b, unpriced. Photo Estimate £ 3,000-4,000 Note: The missing black results in the loss of detail from the petal and leaves. The error, which occurred on columns three and four of a plate 2B–2B–2B–2B pane (number 078527), survived two quality control checks – when originally printed and again when surcharged. It´s thought the error occurred when the press came to a temporary complete stop. The pane was discovered at the time of issue and remained intact until purchased by Campbell Paterson from the May 2008 Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand auction.
