Auction: 9037 - The "Pierron" Collection of British Commonwealth Missing Colours
Lot: 1291

Ireland 1964 (20 July) New York World´s Fair 5p. vertical pair with margin at top, the upper stamp with brown omitted, fine. Extremely rare. Pierron IR402MCa, £6,000+; S.G. 201a, £5,500+. Photo Estimate £ 5,000-6,000 Note: The missing brown results in the loss of shading and detail from the front of the building. The error occurred on the top row of a sheet and shows part of the marginal markings on one of the stamps indicating the cause was a down shift of brown. Although six stamps in total would have been affected only five have been accounted for. One of those has the brown marginal marking on it so is technically not a missing colour error, but has value as the proving piece. quantity: 3 mint, 1 mounted mint
