Three: Engineer Sub-Lieutenant H. Rainer, Royal Naval Reserve 1914-15 Star (Eng. S. Lt. H. Rainer, R.N.R.); British War and Victory Medals (Eng. S. Lt. H. Rainer. R.N.R.), extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 130-160 Engineer Sub-Lieutenant Horace Rainer, R.N.R., served during the Great War in H.M.S. Fauvette, from 8.4.1915; during the Dardanelles Campaign she served as a fleet auxiliary, carrying troops to and from Gallipoli and Salonika; Rainer was killed 9.3.1916, when ´the Fauvette under command of Cdr. H.J. Wilson , R.N.R., was steaming towards the Thames when she struck two mines off the North Foreland in quick succession. The ship sunk in four minutes, taking with her 2 officers [off which Rainer was one] and 12 ratings´; Rainer is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
