Oakleaves, naming neatly erased on last two, nearly extremely fine, together with the following official documents &c.: - Bestowal Document for the Distinguished Service Order, named to Lieutenant (Temporary Major) Hugh Knothe, M.C., and dated 1.1.1917 - Copy of the Statutes of the Distinguished Service Order - Two Mentioned in Despatches Certificates, dated 30.11.1915 and 13.11.1916 - Letter to the recipient from the Secretary of Armstrong College, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, congratulating him upon the award of the Military Cross, dated 19.1.1916 - Signed Commemorative Scroll presented to the recipient by the Managers and Foremen of the Queen´s Park Works on the occasion of his retirement, dated November 1941, together with a group photograph of the Managers and Foremen - Four photographs taken during the Royal Visit to the Queen´s Park Works, 6.3.1941 (5) Estimate £ 1,200-1,500 D.S.O. Res., Army Service Corps Lieutenant-Colonel Hugh Knothe, D.S.O., M.C., born Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1887; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Special Reserve, Army Service Corps, 29.8.1914; Temporary Captain, 13.3.1915; Appointed to the Command of 711 Company, Army Service Corps, tasked to provide drivers, driver training, and mechanical support to Heavy Section, Machine Gun Corps; Appointed Assistant Quarter Master General, Staff, 5.1.1917; temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, 1.9.1917; specially employed with the Ministry of Munitions, 1919-21; relinquishes commission with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, 21.2.1921. During the Second World War Knothe worked for the Ministry of Supply as Assistant Director General, Tank Production, Scotland, and on the 6th March 1941 was presented to Their Majesties the King and Queen during the Royal visit to North British Locomotive Works, Queen´s Park, Glasgow. He died in Newcastle in 1962.
