London Gazette 10.4.1945 No. 4537603 Sergeant William Daybell Handley, Royal Artillery. The recommendation states: ´One of the best Detachment Commanders in the Regiment. Wherever this N.C.O. has commanded, the man-management, technical efficiency of the equipment, and care and maintenance work have been of the highest possible standard. His personal enthusiasm for every job given to him and his unbounded loyalty have been and example to everyone with whom he comes into contact. As a pre-Searchlight infantry soldier of the 6th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (TA) he has served since the conversion of the Unit to Searchlights, and during this period he has made himself an expert on all the equipment which it has been his duty to command.
