East and Central Africa 1897-98, one clasp, Uganda 1899 (Lieut. C.de. V. Beauclerk. K.R.R.Cps.), minor edge nick, otherwise extremely fine and extremely rare Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 Approximately only 3 medals with ´Uganda 1899´ clasp issued to British Army recipients: Lieutenant F.R. Hicks, Hampshire Regiment; Lieutenant C. de Vere Beauclerk, King´s Royal Rifle Corps and 2617 Sergeant S.W. Bone, South Lancashire Regiment (British Battles and Medals, refers). Lieutenant Charles Edward de Vere Beauclerk, born 1875; commissioned Second Lieutenant King´s Royal Rifle Corps, 1894; he was appointed Lieutenant in the Uganda Militia, June 1898, and arrived at his new posting via Marseilles and Mombassa; served under Major G.C. Martyr in his advance down the Nile (21st March - 2nd May 1899), which established posts at Fajoa, Affuddu and Lamogi, and as part of the Wakedi Field Force defeated Mwanga and King Kaberega; Beauclerk whilst travelling from Kampala to Kisumu contracted blackwater fever and was invalided to the coast, however, he did not recover and died on Kerenge Island, Lake Victoria, 14.1.1900.
