Bridge, Royal Scots Fusiliers, and educated at Wellington College; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Highland Light Infantry, May 1897; served with the 2nd Battalion in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Lieutenant-General Sir W.S.A. Lockhart, K.C.B., K.C.S.I., and took part in the operations of the Malakand and Buner Field Forces, including the forcing of the Tanga Pass, June 1897 to April 1898 (Medal with clasp); Lieutenant, 3.2.1900; Served during the Boer War with the Mounted Infantry, and present during operations in the Transvaal, October to December 1901 and February to May 1902; in the Orange River Colony, January 1902; and in the Cape Colony, April 1902; Captain, 23.1.1907; Appointed Adjutant of Volunteers, 6.3.1907; Served during the Great War in the Dardanelles and France, Appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order ´for distinguished service in the Field´ (London Gazette 1.1.1917), and thrice Mentioned in Despatches; Lieutenant-Colonel, 1.10.1921.
