A Rare and Highly Unusual Korea P.O.W., Confirmed Chinese Political Collaborator´s Group of Six to Rifleman T. Flanagan, Royal Ulster Rifles 1939-1945 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals; Korea 1950-53, 1st ´Britt: Omn:´ type (3130672 Rfn. T. Flanagan. R.U.R.), stamped ´Replacement´; United Nations Medal for Korea, very fine or better, mounted as originally worn, with a large amount of research (6) Estimate £ 550-600 3130672 Lance Corporal Thomas Flanagana native of Glasgow, Scotland; served in the Mortar Platoon, ´S´ Company, 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Korean War, and was posted as missing in action 4/5th January 1951. This was immediately after the battalion had been involved in the battle of Chaegunghyon ("Happy Valley"), 3.1.1951. This was the battalion´s first action during the conflict, as a result of which they suffered 208 officers and men killed, wounded or missing in action. Flanaghan was later confirmed as a Prisoner of War, and was interned at Prison Camp 5. During his time there he was indoctrinated by his Chinese captors in what they termed at the time as a "Progressive" manner, and as such he was persuaded to be a Political Collaborator. Upon his release at the end of the war he was listed with 99 others as a Political Collaborator and as such an initial potential security threat.
