Giles, Royal Flying Corps 1914-15 Star (6643 2-A.M. W.E. Giles. R.F.C.); British War Medal (6643 Pte. W.E. Giles. R.F.C.), last planchet only, otherwise extremely fine (4) Estimate £ 200-240 Second Lieutenant John William Plush Cartwright, born 1896; initially served during the Great War as a Sergeant with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in the Egyptian theatre of War, from 10.3.1915 (M.I.D. London Gazette 25.6.1916; entitled to 1914-15 Star); transferred to Royal Air Force, April 1918; commissioned Second Lieutenant (Pilot) 20.8.1918, and ´Died as a result of aero accident 13.5.1919´, whilst posted at 37 T.D.S.; he is buried in Gosport (Ann´s Hill) Cemetery, Hampshire. 6643 Air Mechanic 2nd Class William Edward Giles, a native of Leyton, London; enlisted Royal Flying Corps, 29.6.1915; served during the Great War with the Corps in the French theatre of war, from 7.11.1915; died 29.4.1917, whilst serving with 2 Squadron, he is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.
