Sierra Leone 1892 (19 Mar.) small envelope to France, bearing 1884-91 1/2d. dull green, 2d. grey and 3d. yellow bisected diagonally each cancelled "B31", used to pay the 1oz. rate to France and accepted by the Sierra Leone Post Office but rejected in France where double the 1 1/2d. (considered outstanding) "0,30" in red crayon was charged, bearing Postage Due 30c. black cancelled with Cherbourg c.d.s. (4.4) on arrival, "loanga a bordeaux/l.l. no 2" octagonal d.s. in blue at left, the reverse with Freetown and Paris-Calais T.P.O. (4.4) c.d.s.; the envelope fractionally truncated at left and with a little foxing around the adhesives though, despite being philatelically contrived, an attractive and unusual franking. B.P.A.
