The Royal Niger Company´s Territories 1888-99 Handstruck Stamps Burutu "the royal niger company,/chartered & limited./post office/burutu." double-framed d.s. in seriffed letters. Sacher Type 10, S.G. Type 4 1899 (20 Jan.) envelope to England, marked "Gana Gana 20.1.99" at foot and bearing 1887-92 2 1/2d. purple on blue cancelled with a largely fine strike of the datestamp for 22 January, Paid Liverpool Br. Packet c.d.s. (14.2) at left, Twickenham arrival c.d.s. (14.2) on reverse; trivial imperfections though a most unusual item from this "island" in the river Nur. S.G. Z59. Photo Estimate £ 400-500 Note: Gana Gana was originally no more than a sandbank in the river Nun. The Royal Niger Co. beached a number of old vessels on it and formed an "island". In this way it was possible to find room for warehouses and staff quarters. Gana Gana became a port of entry in 1892
