Lagos Military Mail 1898 (3 Feb.) unstamped soldier´s envelope (complete with contents) to England, marked "Active Service. No Stamps" at top, countersigned by Spencer Scaife, the Commanding Officer of the Lagos Hausas at Shaki and showing "T" h.s. and Liverpool "2d/466" tax handstamp altered to "2 1/2" in manuscript, the reverse (flap missing) with clear Liverpool Br. Packet c.d.s. (18.30); the letter, headed "Shaki. Lagos Hinterland" includes "Been here about a month, brought up to 70 of the Hausa Force and a gun. Four companies of the West India Regt. here.....There will be telegraph communication within a month with Lagos". A fine letter. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000
