Lagos 1879 (9 Dec.) envelope to England, "3" accountancy mark in red crayon and bearing 1876-79 1d. lilac-mauve and 4d. carmine each cancelled "L" in diamond of bars, Paid Liverpool Br. Packet c.d.s. (15.1), Birmingham (15.1) and Newport (15.1) c.d.s. on reverse; an attractive and most unusual rate. S.G. 10, 14. Photo Estimate £ 600-800 Note: There is no Lagos c.d.s. on this cover. It may have emanated from inland, but whereas at this time there was an internal postal rate of 1d. to and from Sherbro in Sierra Leone, such a charge has not been recorded for Lagos
