Gambia 1881 (28 July) envelope registered from Bathurst to Washington, U.S.A., 3" accountancy mark and marked "Registered No. 21" in the same magenta ink, bearing 1874 imperforate CC 4d. brown [7 with good to large margins], in combination with 1880-81 comb perf. 1/2d. orange horizontal strip of three and a single" all cancelled with "gambia/c/paid" c.d.s. in red, showing Liverpool Registered oval d.s. (14.8) and with U.S. "24002" registration number in blue below, the reverse with a further strike of the despatch c.d.s., New York (27.8) and Washington (28.8) registration handstamps in violet. A fantastic and exceptionally rare combination franking of imperforate and perforated stamps registered to an unusual destination. One of the most important of all the Cameo covers recorded.
