Iran, Qajar Dynasty, Fath´Ali Shah (1797-1834), AV 3-Toman, 13.18g, AH 1242 (1826-7), Persian legends: Sikkah Fath´Ali Shah Khusru-ve Sahibquiran, rev. zarb-e zarabkhaneh-ye mobarakeh rekab (cf. KM.754, but type X), very fine Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 This interesting and apparently unpublished piece was struck at the Qajar military mint, or urdu. The date (1826-7) corresponds with that of the Second Russo-Persian War, therefore is is likely that this coin was struck to fund the campaign in the Caucasus.
