A proposed issue of postal order currency, 20 shillings, ND (c.August 1914), red and white, head of George V top left, value top right, ink manuscript text at centre ´These notes are a legal tender for a payment of any anount, issued by the Lord Commissioners of his Majesty´s Treasury under authority of Act of Parliament, John Bradbury, Secretary of the Treasury´, counterfoil at left, text top margin cancelled , printed text across face ´POSTAL ORDER FOR £1 ARE A LEGAL TENDER FOR A PAYMENT OF ANY AMOUNT UNDER AUTHORITY OF ACT OF PARLIAMENT.´ good very fine and important. This issue presumabably mooted at the outbreak of war in August 1914 and in the intention of temporary measures to take the gold half and full sovereign off the streets until an issue of paper currency could be (the ´Bradbury £1 and 10/- were issued on 7th august 1914.
